Catherine is the only child of Captain Kurt Swann of His Royal Majesty's army and Merigold Swann nee Smith. Catherine didn't remember much of her childhood other than the fact her mother worrying about her father when he was on the Front Lines. And within the last two years before their fatal carriage ride, he had been commanding some soldiers on the Spanish Front.
